An “all clear” has been issued for individuals at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) after the campus was in lockdown for more than an hour following reports of an active shooter situation.

Around 12:40 p.m., UTC sent out an alert to students and faculty reading, “Possible active shooter in the University Center or Library. Run. Hide. Fight. More info forthcoming,” after the Chattanooga Police Department said it received a call from the campus library reporting shots fired.

“All individuals on the UTC campus should remain on lockdown. Do not move unless directed by law enforcement. Campus facilities are currently being searched by police,” UTC later added.

One hour after the initial alert, UTC said “No threat has been identified at this time” and no victims have been found as law enforcement continues to search the campus.

At 2:01 p.m., the Chattanooga Police Department announced that the lockdown for the university and city buildings around the campus was lifted and emergency personnel units were returning to service as law enforcement officials “found no evidence of a threat.”

Officers with the Tennessee Highway Patrol and agents with the Tennessee Department of Homeland Security were among the law enforcement officials on the scene at UTC, assisting local authorities who led the investigation.

All UTC classes and activities have been cancelled until Friday at 8:00 a.m., the university announced.
